Vijay Gojiya

Five years of React Native.

I build React Native apps and ship them. Five years of it, mostly iOS and Android together, mostly TypeScript from the first commit.

The work I like best is the awkward kind: migrating a legacy codebase onto the New Architecture, tracking down why a list drops frames on a mid-range Android, writing the Kotlin and Swift that React Native does not give you. I have taken apps from a Figma file to a store listing, and I have taken apps from React Native 0.63 to 0.79 without breaking the people already using them.

I mentor the interns at Inara, I read other people Turbo Module source for fun, and I publish what I learn.

Where the time went

  1. January 2022

    Joined as a developer

    Inara Consultancy Services

First production work: a social app on Firestore with Cloud Messaging push on both platforms. Posts, follows, chat and stories taught me more about permissions and third-party libraries than any tutorial had.

    • Firestore
    • Cloud Messaging
    • React Native
  2. 2022 to 2023

    Streaming and live events

    Revolt Summit and Revolt TV

Built the full auth flow, deep linking for both platforms, and custom video playback with offline series downloads. Event traffic arrives all at once, which changes how you think about what has to work before the network answers.

    • Deep Linking
    • Video
    • i18next
  3. 2024

    Rider and driver apps

    Inara Consultancy Services

Built from scratch against a GraphQL backend, with background geolocation, animated ride-progress markers and Stripe payments. Also the year I started taking React Query seriously.

    • GraphQL
    • Google Maps
    • Stripe
    • Sentry
  4. 2024 to 2025

    Legacy modernisation

    Inara Consultancy Services

Took several client codebases up to current React Native, through the dependency and native-level breaking changes, converting class components to functional ones with full TypeScript coverage and adding Jest and Testing Library along the way.

    • New Architecture
    • TypeScript
    • Jest
  5. 2025

    Release automation and native modules

    Inara Consultancy Services

Set up GitHub Actions and Fastlane so builds, code signing and store releases stopped being a person. Wrote the Android half of a Firebase push library in Kotlin, which is where the native module habit started.

    • GitHub Actions
    • Fastlane
    • Kotlin
  6. Now

    Still at Inara, still shipping

    Inara Consultancy Services

Owning projects end to end, mentoring the interns through live work and code review, and building on the current edge of the stack in my own time.
